So SASSY

SASSY radio DJ Dave Otto and FOR BETTER cast member Rhonda Brown.

Wish I could post the mp3 of their radio interview here, too. That Rhonda. She's a very lovable nutcase.

And I DO mean that in the best way.

Michael Ensminger is the photographer. I've worked with him for years. He's brilliant at capturing great shots while during dress rehearsal. SO much better than posed shots.

Curious Theatre dares to be different

Curious Theatre dares to be different
By Joanne Davidson
Denver Post Staff Writer

Curious - the theater company that built its success by daring to be different - opened its 10th anniversary season with a celebration that was deliciously out of the ordinary.

After parking near the Acoma Street theater, guests made their way on foot or by shuttle bus to Palettes at the Denver Art Museum for cocktails, dinner and toasts that paid tribute to both the past and the future.

Board president Elizabeth Neid gave one, Bob Garner the other.

"For Curious to achieve what it has without the resources of, say, a DCPA is nothing short of amazing," observed Garner, who for years brought Broadway shows to the Denver Performing Arts Complex and is the namesake for the Garner Galleria Theatre at the complex.

Denver Post gives DRIVE 3.5 stars!

Your initial feeling is nostalgia: A warm summer evening at the Starlite Drive-in. The smoky grill of a '65 Chevrolet. The dulcet tones of crickets and "Stand By Me."

If you didn't know any better, you'd half-expect Frankie and Annette to pop up from the back seat, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.
But, no. When "How I Learned to Drive" opens, things are not at all how they appear. For our "lovers" are a 17-year-old girl named Li'l Bit and her enigmatic Uncle Peck.

But while your mind adjusts to these taboo new parameters, that sense of nostalgia does not entirely fade. For in revisiting

Paula Vogel's engrossing Pulitzer Prize winner, which launched Curious Theatre 10 seasons ago, this company is in every sense returning to what it does best: scorching, disturbing, quality theater.

Welcome back.

Denver Post: Story and Slideshow

Check out John's great story on our 10 Seasons!

"I don't know how many theaters I've been in, but you can feel the energy in this one," Vogel told The Denver Post in 2004. "In every town, I figure there are at least one or two places that are on the side of the angels. This is one of them."
Walton brought "Drive" back as a perfect 10th-season bookend. But it also helps him refashion his mission that, for the first time, will soon include plays previously produced in Denver, like (thanks to Curious itself) - "Drive."
